“Sweat it out, Laugh it out” – Weekend Workshop
Friday 16th September – Sunday 18th 2016
This weekend was an incredible combination of theatre and physicality, set in a backdrop of paradise. Here we explored the work of the neutral mask and red nose clown, after starting the weekend with an inipi, a traditional sweat lodge.
The inipi
The inipi is a native American tradition of detoxification & recharge, with fire heated basalt rocks heating a small sweat lodge. People come to sweat out and surrender to the heat. You may come to sweat out on a physical, emotional and spiritual level, with prayers and intentions given to the rocks as they are placed in the fire. It is a phenomenal experience.
The Neutral Mask & Red Nose Clown
During the weekend we used the neutral masks to play with presence, posture and breath. Developed by Amletto Sartori & Jacques Lecoq these masks tap into our base humanness, which lies in the heart of our collective experience.
At the other end of the spectrum Red Nose Clown celebrates our uniqueness and individuality. As Giovanni Fusetti, well-known international clown teacher, says “intelligence is limited whilst stupidity is infinite”.
Here is what people thought:
